the longer i stay at college the fewer my social events are. it could be construed that i'm simply too lazy to vacate my dorm room, but come on, let's be realistic here... that only amounts to about 80% of the problem. the rest of the explanation is that social events are too much work. no, that's not another aspect of laziness, it's different.. somehow.humans are indeed a rather social bunch, right up there with chipmunks and chimpanzees. but it takes a lot of effort for me to be cordial to most people. so if i'm going to make the effort, it's only human to want a decent return, no? (now, being christian and all that, i truly get a good return out of cheering somebody up or some other such thing where i don't directly benefit. but if i'm going to a party to eat some free food and sit in a chair talking tomyself all evening, i can do that perfectly fine in my dorm room. except the free food part, that throws the whole thing off, forget i mentioned free food). so last friday was an acousticafe.. yac puts on 3-4 of these a semester (yac is the yellowjacket (school mascot) activities council, administratese for "evil plot to remove geeks from their beloved computers"). they actually went to some effort to bring a band from houston and dallas each, so supposedly it was supposed tobe a good night. but the yac people were rushed and didn't get time to put out the leapord skin table clothes, candles, and christmas lights. i could have survied but for the lack of christmas lights. where's the atmosphere poeple?
so anyways, schooby and i mosied over there and helped ourselves to the free food (i may be an older college student, but i'm still a college student). where was i going with all this? i'm not sure... i was intending to make more snide remarks about all things social, but i ended up having a good time that night. good enough to stay up til 0230 at least. my sr. year of high school i craved friendships. now my sr. year of college i'm content with the friends i have and don't make extra effort to spend every free hour with friends like i have done in the past. maybe i'm subconsciously preparing myself for life after college when i'm in a community where i know no one, living alone. i'm looking forward to it actually, i know i have friends i can correspond with, and i trust God will put a close aquaitence or two in my life to hang out with.

plus, tis often that i complain about my very existence then 24 hours later am praising God for his goodness. you'd think a little more consistency would do me good. i never could stand the israelites with all their complaining, but i've long since resigned myself to the fact that i act very much like them, despite my abhorance for their stiff-necked idiocy. God have mercy on us, and good thing that he has.
