this is kind of backwards, but i'll get the small stuff out of hte way and talk about last weekend before i get around to spring break. it's like this: schooby and i wandered off to iowa to see marcus. he lives in decorah, yeah, that's a strong 15 hours from here. another three hours and a completely different direction and i could have been home. but it was worth the driving. saturday morning we actually got out and spent a couple hours hiking. i was thrilled. saturday evening we went and hung out in a cafe in downtown decorah. based on how much fun i've had hanging out in restaurants recently, i should do it more often.we left after church and lunch, getting back here at 4am monday. eh, that was a fun day monday was. we took schooby's car. it was my first experience over the road with a 3-speed automatic. it had a knack for dropping into second at 75mph. in a corvette under acceleration i'd say "duuude this thing as a good rpm range" then proceed on up to overdrive for cruising down interstate. in schooby's car i'd simply get this queasy feeling in my stomach and think that maybe 5mph slower really won't lengthen our driving time all that much. but his car made it just fine. i like four door sedans.. they got good leg room, and they got good seats. if i'd been in a corvette i'd probably be crippled from back disorders by the time i got as far as kansas city.
schooby did most of the driving, and i did most of the sleeping. we got gas just west of texarkana and he said i should probably drive the rest of the way. i thought hmmm. i hadn't slept well in the past two hours, but hey, at least i'd rested. so i picked up a liter of mt. dew and we headed out. being driver meant i was controlling the radio.. for schooby's sake i avoided country the whole trip except for this one case. life is good.
hitting interstate at 0230am, 70mph through the dark northeast texas country side, mt. dew pumping in my veins, the radio up loud (for the interested, it was that post-911 song, "we'll light up your world like the fourth of july". it was the onlything exciting on at the moment), and home stretch on a 1900 mile journey. i love traveling.
