<< Sarcasm Scale >>

An explanation...

[0] = drop dead serious

[1] = no sarcasm, take it at face value

[2] = light banter

[3] = sarcastic, but still in a good mood

[4] = very sarcastic, almost enough to make you take a step back and say, "whoa"

[5] = very sarcastic, perhaps a skosh overboard [3] (and typically it means I'm upset)

today has been a good one.  although right now i'm fighting a losing battle with the keyboard on shroud's laptop.  i'm in favor of "expansionest theory equals good" when it comes to keyboards.  at nine this morning i got the privelege of hleping stuff a thousand envelopes.  we're trying to raise money for our nifa team (dunno, something to the order of 20 grand--flying airplanes is expensive apparently :) ).  so in order to do this we're sending out letters to a thosuand of our alumni begging (ah, i mean calmly asking) for money.  after that we had nifa practice... it was pretty free form.  four of us took two of the skyhawks to an outlying airport to do tngs.  it was ifr getting there, at 3k we were skimming the deck, occasionally blowing through a cloud peak or two.  people, it's a lot of fun to fly... i picked the right career methinks :).

this afternoon shroud schooby and i went to watch phone booth.  it was actually a historical event... the first time i've been to a theatre in longview besides the dollar theatre.  (although my ticket actually only cost me $2 instead of the usual $5, the only persuasion enabling me to go).  of course, since nifa practice, i can assure you with complete confidence that i have done absolutely nothing of constructive value.  although i have indeed been constructive, never fear (am i not writing this blog, thence by definition of "constructive" i am constructing a literary creation of whatever magnitude (impressive, superb, or stupendous, your choice).  schooby and i (and bolt) are making progress on the puzzle.  (i know that's exciting news for everyone, but i felt like telling you anyway)... i worked on that some this afternoon too.  elsewise i've been in shroud's room... being uh.. productive.

the three of us had some good discussions on phonebooth, regarding the supposed justice of the sniper.  maybe after it's been out a while longer i can go into that a little after people've seen it.

being in shroud's room is like moving from podunkville kentuky to the thriving metropolis of new york city.  with abu around, my room gets a little bit of traffic.  but shroud's room gets inundated at regular intervals with crowds of people.  we've averaged 3 to 4 poeple in the room on a continuous basis for the past two hours with the exception of the ten minutes we were part of the 8 people in the room two doors down.  for me the college experience has been made by the dorm life.  many people abhor the dorm and try to depart as soon as they can.  but here on this floor, we actually have a fairly good retention rate, particuarly between the freshman and sophomore years.  we also have a high percentage of seniors on the floor, who like me have stayed all four (or five) years.  but without the dorm life, this school doesn't have enough to attract me to stay.  for starters some of the classes i've taken are mostly a waste of my time.  (i must say in response to that criticism however, that at the end of four years, i am mildly surprised at the extent of what i've learned here.  granted, if classes had been less a waste of time i'd probably know more, but still, i seem to know a lot.  take for instance the ifr flight i took today.. i flew the first leg, the other guy the second.. coming back we were having an altercation with approach (it was actually my fault, but she wasn't being very helpful).  the other guy was busy trying to fly the airplane, so he deferred the radio calls to me.  i felt like a flight instructor, sitting in the right seat no less, talking with approach and having nothing to do but talk.  it's amazing how much faster a person can talk when they're just doing that instead of four other things at the same time.  well, i guess i shouldn't generalize.. but that's how i work anyway.  i sound like my computer when i get busy, speech is down the priority list a ways from the top, so it comes out in half sentence spurts with long pauses in between.  now that i've chased that rabbit down it's trail and thoroughly killed it, back to your reguarly scheduled program)

but i've run out of things to say for the moment...
