so i'm staying in this trailer house with a number of other people. there's roomate one ("d"), and there's roomate number two ("p") and then there's roomate's three and four, who are moving out. they haven't exactly moved out yet, but then i haven't exactly moved in yet, so we're even. i've been residing in the living room, which really doesn't bother me all that much. for one, i really don't care if i'm sleeping in my own room or not, a place to sleep is a place to sleep. for two, i really don't have anything to put in a room right now. see, it's like this. i left thursday. there was to be a plane leaving work on saturday from va. i was to arrive monday. so i packed most of my stuff and left it at the airport. then i threw what was left in my car and came out here. but planes will be planes, and now it's due to leave this saturday (7days later). so i've been going a week on the leftovers from my car. which has got me to thinking some.i haven't really needed anything from my pile of stuff on the plane. sure, i could have used my backpack riding bike to work, and a nicer shirt to wear to bible study last night, and if i had my keyboard and mouse i could be typing this on my computer instead of d's, but it hasn't been a crippling experience. when i was packing up in the first place, i made mental notes of a lot of stuff that i'll probably drop off at the nearest salvation army, but now my mental list is growing. i even find myself wishing i had a really good reason to sell my car. (otherwise i have to shell out nigh on a grand a year insurance, as i have already mentioned ;) ). however, if i start going to different church activities than everybody else, i'll need a car, since all my denominational relatives are on the north side of town. i just happen to be on the south side.
so often i keep something because "i might need it in the future." take, for instance, the red and gold glitter i have in my desk drawer (or in the box that contains my usual desk drawer contents). what on earth am i ever going to need red and gold glitter for? but if i do ever need it, i'll have to shell out the $1.50 to get new stuff if by then i have gotten rid of the stuff i have now. there are other things, like a desk lamp. i don't ahve any use for a desk lamp right now, but if i need one for a new apartment five months down the road, i have a free one on hand instead of a $14 at walmart. maybe i should take up a new mentality: "aww shucks. i have a steady paycheck, i can afford it."
