Post 3, Almond Park"exterior indicators of christianity" continued...
wow, two hours. i went over to downtown LA and messed around for a bit there. but i decided to keep all my limbs, so i didn't park anywhere. a number of the parking lots around downtown LA are charging $3 per 30 minutes, $15 max. aie.
i'm sitting in a park. anybody i meet is going to be a stranger, and each one will receive a first impression of me. now switching sides, i also will receive a first impression of anybody i meet. knowing my history, what's happened in the past, i can completely dismiss somebody out of mind based on the first impression. for instance, the strongest one i can think of is if i see somebody smoking. i really don't want to be around them and would probably actually go out of my way to avoid them unless they approached me directly. now know a few people who are smokers who i get along with, joke around with, the fact that they smoke doesn't bother me so long as it's not around me. but with a stranger, somebody i have no prior experience with, nothing to balance out the "they are a smoker" fact, they essentially get a cold shoulder from me. (clarification to keep you from thinking too negatively about me: i'm talking about people that i don't actually meet, other drivers on the road, people in a crowded area. if i do happen to be introduced to a smoker or something, i'm very cordial, but it still takes a while before i gather enough positive evidence about them to balance their smoking habit before i think about them without thinking of their habit. is that convoluted enough?)
alright, i'm tired of making a case. let's move to solutions. personally, i lead a fairly "normal" life. i hold a steady job, i don't dress [too] funny, i don't step on people's toes. sure, i'm one of those people that goes to church on sunday, but so do a lot of people. i'm what the older generation would probably call a descent kid, at least his parents taught him some discipline, even if they couldn't get him to spell too good. i'm not one of those punks with his head shaved wearing baggy pants and a wife beater screaming obscenities at old ladies in the parking lot. but by the same token, i don't stick out a whole lot either. i go with the flow pretty well, which isn't quite what the bible calls for.
mom gave me a bag of large marshmellows before i moved out here. darren ate most of them, so he bought me a bag of the mini's. now i'm not particuarlly fond of eating marshmellows raw. a few are good, but i have trouble trying to stop at a few, so i'd rather not eat them at all (see sentence two). ah, but what is good is chewy marshmellows. especially when they're so chewy, they are difficult to eat in high volumes. i believe chewy marshmellows are created by taking a bag of raw marshmellows and leaving it open for a long, long time. in order to get a grasp of how long this is, you'll have to ask one of my siblings for an explanation. just tell them i said its "as long as mom can keep candy without eating it." so i decided to stiffen my marshmellows. first, i opened the bag. now i am having difficulty with the "long, long" part. well, not right now, but that's just because the marshmellows are at home and i'm not. these are the cheap house brand, i'm not sure if that makes a difference, but i can tell you that these marshmellows are definitely have more powdered sugar on them than any i have ever had. if you dare, you can look through my laundry basket and discover which clothing i was wearing while eating them, there's white powder all over them.
i also have installed a neat little program in my system tray. normally i am very rabid about keeping programs out of my system tray, so this helps you realize how cool this program is to be given a spot there. its a program by SIGuardian (make sure you go for the freeware version) that tells you the temperature of your hard drive. i'm still in the process of finding one that will tell me my cpu temp, but this is way cool. normally in the house when its getting kind of stuffy, the temp can be pushing 120 degrees F. right now in the park where i'm wearing a sweatshirt and the temp is just comfortable, the hd's at 87, the lowest i've ever seen it for a sustained period. it lets you know when it's time to get a fan and start circulating some air.
hmm. it's sprinkling. gotta go.
