here i sit at the public library. got that listless feeling again. not quite tired enough to take a nap, but decidedly lethargic. not really interested in doing much of anything. part of it is going to bed at three yesterday afternoon. part of it is sitting still all through the sermon. i just took my shoes off, that should help. i just switched from classical to a mix of bjork, evanessence, garbage, and the hacker's soundtrack, that should help. i can't have a pepsi here in the library, but that would help too. i came here with the intention of studying my bible.. well, i managed to open it at least. but now i'm browsing through a recent purchase (rarely am i able to pass used books for sale without obtaining a number of them). it is Solid Geometry and Spherical Trigonometry by Henry L.C. Leighton, a textbook copyrighted 1943 and containing the following notice: "In the manufacture of this book, the publishers have observed the recommendations of the War Production Board and any variation from previous printings of the same book is the result of this effort to conserve paper and other critical materials as an aid to war effort." the girl next to me is reading a thick textbook highlighted with pink and yellow highlighter. those are the two colors i primarily used in my last year of college. why my last year? becuase that's the only year i really highlighted anything. why pink and yellow? becuase those are the only two colors i had that worked, and i was too cheap to buy somemore.. after all, i never used htem. she's even using the same brand of highlighter that i did. she's also drinking a 20 fl oz bottle of diet coke, something i Never did. apparently this library allows drink. perhaps, but i have my doubts. there's a student on the level below me who's drinking red bull (it gives you wings). ah, and the two girls in his study group are passing a bag of chips back and forth. at any rate, if it is not permitted, it is by no means strictly enforced. that aside, a pepsi would be nice. you know, i've always had a strong aversion to diet drinks. also to caffine free drinks that normally have caffine. like pepsi. i'm halfway tempted to do some research into how bad diet drinks are for you, but i'm afraid i'd incriminate normal soft drinks in the process, and i'd hate to do that to myself. ignorance is as usual, the happiest course. the girl beside me is also listening to a panasonic mp3 player and not paying much attention to her text. the ceiling is recieving most of her attentions at this point. she got up a while ago and returned with a full size oxford dictionary, i haven't seen her open that yet either. the guy with the red bull has spent more time standing up so he can talk to the girl across the divider from him than he has spent doing problems out of his textbook. recalling a few "study sessions" i had at the school library, i don't recall getting much homework done there either. or studying. whatever we were doing. outside on the lawn, in the sun shine on a blanket is a young woman having a picnic whith what appears to be her 2-3 yo daughter. they're having a dynamic conversation, the little girl pointing to various things and bouncing around like three year old's are apt to do. it's a fine day outside, although it's hard to tell by looking through the dirty and tinted windows like i am at the moment. there is a man on the lower level, over by the windows who is writing by hand. he might be referencing something in front of him, but i think it's a closed notebook. he has a rather spartan workspace, only a napsack with the notebook on top of it, a smaller notebook open in which he is writing, and a small bottle of water which he just got up to throw away. i wonder what he is writing. the girl next to me is asian, at least twenty something years old, obligatory black hair to the small of her back, wearing black pants and long-sleeve shirt over a white dress blouse. she has elbows on the table, fingers interlaced at her chin.. she's probably watching the foursome studying below (the group with the red bull and chips). aha, she just roused herself and highlighted a line in her text and is now back in her former position, looking outside at the cars on the street. that does it.. i'm not getting what i wanted to get done here, and i really want a pepsi. fare thee well.0125041.1354-1456
