<< Sarcasm Scale >>

An explanation...

[0] = drop dead serious

[1] = no sarcasm, take it at face value

[2] = light banter

[3] = sarcastic, but still in a good mood

[4] = very sarcastic, almost enough to make you take a step back and say, "whoa"

[5] = very sarcastic, perhaps a skosh overboard [3] (and typically it means I'm upset)

Lamentations

as with all the poetical books, i wish i could read this one in the original language.  as it stands, we rob it of its rhyme and meter.  this makes for less interesting reading, but my general dislike for poetry notwithstanding, i still like this book.

the heart of this book, oddly enough, is in the center.  3.19-42.  vv22-23 will be recognizable to those of us who sing hymns.  here's 31-33.  37-39 are helpful as well.

     For men are not cast off
         by the Lord forever.
     Though he brings grief, he will show compassion,
         so great is his unfailing love.
     For he does not willingly bring affliction
         or grief to the children of men.

5.4  "We must buy the water we drink; / our wood can be had only at a price."  why, that sounds like my life here in LA.
