<< Sarcasm Scale >>

An explanation...

[0] = drop dead serious

[1] = no sarcasm, take it at face value

[2] = light banter

[3] = sarcastic, but still in a good mood

[4] = very sarcastic, almost enough to make you take a step back and say, "whoa"

[5] = very sarcastic, perhaps a skosh overboard [3] (and typically it means I'm upset)

thirty minutes later what have i accomplished?  well, i've drunk three quarters of my orange crush.  ah, but here's something i'm pleased with:  i've taken my cluttered pile of stuff to do and neatened it.  so now i have a neat pile of stuff to do.  sounds like success to me :).

okay, what have we here to talk about.  hmm, how about notes from last night.  here:

"Our Philosophy of Ministry" : 0211044-20

let me start by telling you that this title is somewhat of a stretch for the discussion that followed.

sharing Christ with coworkers and friends was talked about for a little while.  i just finished reading "The Chosen" by Chaim Potok.  (an excellent book, an easy yet thought-provoking read).  one of the characters (danny) had chosen to follow a career that his father disagreed with.  danny spent a lot of time in agony, refusing to talk to his father about his choice, waiting instead to put it off as long as he could.  i was somewhat derisive of danny, becuase he would have been much better off with the truth in the open, rather than holding it in for so many months.  he dreaded the moment so badly, that it was worth it to him to suffer the agony of suspense.  now i transfer that derision to myself, becuase i have never been vocal about my faith to nonchristians.  i fly with non-christians on about 50% of my flights.  we spend six hours a day in the sky, our only distraction is conversation.  my goodness, i'm inexplicable sometimes.

also mentioned were oppurtunities to witness.. gibson's passion being one, christian concerts another.  then i got this idea.  it's partially inspired by that story of a church full of people.  geurilla soldiers bust in, say "spit on this picture of Jesus and you may walk out unharmed, else die!"  so a bunch of people walk out spitting on the picture as they go.  then this little girl comes along and wipes the picture off with her dress, then kisses it.  sappy ending ensues, forward to six friends and be blessed blah blah blah (i hate those forwards).  back to christian concerts.  how's this?  christian's get in for the normal 10-20 bucks, whatever the price is, but non-christians get in free.  dunno, maybe it's already done that way in places, pretty cool concept eh?  i wonder how many "christians" would say they're not to get the free ride?

sentence from the lesson:  "Commitment to God's Word, community, prayer, and worship occurred in the building phase of Jesus' ministry as he developed an evironment conducive to building up his followers and preparing them to be effective in reaching their friends for Christ."  okay, it's obvious that my use of the english language is fairly appalling.  but this sentence bothered me.  seriously, read it aloud and see what you think.  i think run-on, but in all fairness it could be grammatically correct.

but then the next para contained this sentence:  The word of God must be our reference for absolute truth.  that i can agree with.

i love hanging out with these philippinos.  their accents are so cool.  here's how they say résumé:  reshumay (single roll to the "r" and say it fast).

here's something morbid to be thankful for, that we will not be able to see hell from heaven.  that way we cannot see the accusing eyes of the friends we had on earth whom we did not witness to.

i was going to end there, but i can't.. it's too morbid :\.  so i'll end with a lightbulb joke.

How many surrealists does it take to change a light bulb?

how long should i make you wait for the answer?  you need to at least guess.  no, you're nowhere close.  sorry.  the answer is:  Fish
