having not opened my bible in a while, any verse i see is more likely to jump out at me. having seen three this morning, i had three jump out at me...Jeremiah 17.7-8
"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in him.
He will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit."
they had this up on the screen when i showed up at church this morning. it was planted on a background of georgeous green maple leaves hanging over a greenish brown river. looked like my granddad's property in late spring. ver nice. very nice verse as well. it's a very refreshing thought, the thought of sitting in the cool shade of a tree in late spring, listening to the water gurlgle by. ...and the gnats buzzing in your face and the ants crawling up your pant leg and... sorry :).
I Corinthians 10.10-13
And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
i've always kind of wondered. is that a blessing, or is it a curse? everytime you fail, you can have the "comfort" of that verse whispering in your ear. ooh, you messed up again. guess what, you could have avoided that one for sure.
Psalm 44.3
It was not by their sword that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them victory;
it was your right hand, your arm,
and the light of your face, for you loved them.
this was on a prayer card for the Billy Graham Crusade. i find it interesting think upon that the "light of God's face" was able to win the land. i like the whole verse anyway.
