my hardrive is up to 98 degrees now... it'll level off at 113ºF or so. it's nice on the cold winter evenings when i'm out in the living room typing. it's not so nice on the hot summer evenings when i'm out inthe living room typing. one time i tried to do it with shorts on and quickly decided it wasn't going to work, but jeans are usually okay if i shift it around every two or three minutes. pete's laptop get's so hot that when we were driving back to texas last october i had to put a pillow in my lap first...and i could still feel the heat through that. this morning i was getting ready for work by emptying the previous day's lunch containers out of my backpack. but i guess that's not back far enough. last wednesday i pulled a soundcard out of a computer in the office to put in a computer down at the shop. i never got around to putting it in, and forgot to put the screw back in the original computer--so into my pocket it went. back to this morning, with the same screw in my pocket, i grabbed a nine-volt battery out of the charger for my headset and tossed it in my pocket, just like i've done for the past three days. this time the screw managed to get between the contacts somehow. first thing i know someing ver ver warm is occupying my pocket. after removing the screw from where it was melted into the plastic casing of the battery, i tossed the battery from hand to hand trying to figure out whether there would be enough charge left to last a full flight. deciding not to worry about it i went to toss it on my bed. changing my mind on that i tried to figure out where i could put it that it wouldn't catch anything on fire if it decided to something illicit like a thermal runaway. ...at anyrate, the hard drive has stabilized at a steady 111ºF against my left leg. who needs hot chocolate when you have a laptop?23:55 email me permalink / commentary (0)
