<< Sarcasm Scale >>

An explanation...

[0] = drop dead serious

[1] = no sarcasm, take it at face value

[2] = light banter

[3] = sarcastic, but still in a good mood

[4] = very sarcastic, almost enough to make you take a step back and say, "whoa"

[5] = very sarcastic, perhaps a skosh overboard [3] (and typically it means I'm upset)

kindergarden
my best friend was scott
i remember miss miller drawing the exodus of israel on the board
mom brought the class fresh strawberries on my birthday

first grade
i learned to read (that was lifechanging)
i was one of the three most disciplined kids in a class of 21

second grade
we memorized psalm 139
i learned the difference between they're there and their

third grade
i learned that leaving my seat to see if i could breath easier next to a plant (that was supposed to be producing oxygen) only makes the teacher irratible
i learned to despise writing cursive
we had a brand new teacher (it was her first year) and we worked her over good

fourth grade
kickball was all the rage
i was reading about the hardy boys as fast as i could

fifth grade
i began preparing for my college dorm life, spending recess inside playing on the computer
foursquare was all the rage, except the sixthgraders were always taking over
i learned to despise vocabulary worksheets (i dont' know when i started to like vocab, but it was after i didn't have to do those stupid worksheets anymore)

sixth grade
i was reading all the time, i was more likely to be carrying a book than to have combed my hair that morning
at lunch, while the rest of the middle school was contentdly seated at tables in the gym, i was carefully stepping on the different colored tiles, back and forth back and forth while eating my sandwich.  fortuneatly, as a small private school, they didn't have a psychologist on staff :).

seventh grade
charlie bounced a golf ball off the floor and shattered one ofthe flourescent light bulbs.
i got one of the good lockers because miss bender decided to start at the end of the alphabet for once
i now had a whole new library to read from

eigth grade
i dont' remember anything

ninth grade
i finally stopped getting demerits all the time
i lied to mr. byler when he asked me if i had been reading a book in class...it bothered me til the next summer when i finally called and apologized
typing class was a cinch because i'd learned to type during fifth grade recess :)

tenth grade
biology is decidedly not my strong suit
i was running out of math classes to take
i was generally living it up, i had i think nine study hall periods (out of 35) a week.

eleventh grade
new school, it scared me into getting straight a's for one whole semester
my class size went from 19 to 50+
i learned to love my anabaptist origins

twelth grade
i was back to working the system
i took term paper, a literature elective, and wrote the only term paper i've written in my life.  having a technical major was the best decision i've ever made :).
i realized i was running out of time to read the entire school library, so i stepped up my efforts

freshman
new school again, except now i could sleep between my classes as well as during them.  what a life.
learned that a private school education was acutally harder than college in some ways

sophomore
learned to fly
started hanging out with girls more (boy was that a mistake)

junior
stopped playing as many computer games and went back to reading books
discovered i could put text files on my calculator and thus read books in class without any suspicion

senior
started to sleep at night
stopped hanging out with girls
stopped doing homework
had the best schoolyear of my life since tenth grade, albeit not academically

a year after graduation
still have an abhorance for homework/deadlines
still love to fly
the last book i read was on thursday, when i spent ten hours (i got home at four pm, started at five, and finished at three in the morning) plowing straight through.  it's high time to start the next.

what have i learned from life?

sleep more
read more
eat better
stay away from girls
