<< Sarcasm Scale >>

An explanation...

[0] = drop dead serious

[1] = no sarcasm, take it at face value

[2] = light banter

[3] = sarcastic, but still in a good mood

[4] = very sarcastic, almost enough to make you take a step back and say, "whoa"

[5] = very sarcastic, perhaps a skosh overboard [3] (and typically it means I'm upset)

whoa!  major chills this time.  it was better than hearing 309.

     I had a six transistor when I was a kid.
     Under my pillow, I kept it hid.
     When the lights went out and no one could see.
     Over the airwaves the world came to me....  (remaining lyrics)

and runner up:

     I was five and he was six
     We rode on horses made of sticks
     He wore black and I wore white
     He would always win the fight

     Bang bang, he shot me down
     Bang bang, I hit the ground
     Bang bang, that awful sound
     Bang bang, my baby shot me down....  (remaining lyrics)

more glimpses

me running along the sidewalk at the air jamiaca departures terminal trying to catch up with a granola bar wrapper that flew out of my car on this extra windy day.  i broke off the chase about six inches from the back bumper of some suv that sprang up out of the asphalt as i concentrated on the elusive foil.  after giving the suv a good glare for getting in my way, with an extra half-second added just because it was an suv, i consoled myself by realizing that i was one of three people in jamaica that wouldn't have thrown the wrapper out the window intentionally in the first place.  i turned around to find a woman collapsed on the shoulder of a redcap as she was near to tears with laughter (i'd only pounced about nine times in fifty feet, much to her and the redcap's amusement).  i grinned (quite charmingly i'm sure) and said "the entertainment's free" and just about ran into the postmistress.  (she's tops out below eye level, so i feel excused for this blunder).  she had a stack of mail for me (thanks Mom!  five letters from 11 feb to 7 march.  i felt guilty putting just one letter in the outbound box :) ).

back to the granola, that brought back some memories.  riding a trail on the north river with the twins especifically.  that was the day i took a "short cut" to beat kyle back to the pickup and discovered terrain not meant to be traveled by two wheeled contraptions at high velocities.  but i think i was first introduced to the oats 'n honey bars somewhere south of hone quarry.  although that was with the twins too.  that was the day after we braved a small hail storm just to quail before hypothermia.  (who would of guessed that the hail storm accompianied a cold front.  surely not me with all my aviaiton weather training :) ).

going to a church service and finding myself clapping with more enthusiasm than 98% of the congregation.  remember i am of staid mennonite upbringing.  apparently jamaica has corrupted me :).  the residents of chiapas on the otherhand, were much more staid than i was expecting.

but this past sunday (okay, yesterday) made up for it.  went to north street for the second time.  not quite as interesitng as the first time, but then the elementary kids had been doing the program then.  this time the were a bit more enthusiastic on the praise and worship.  it's cool because i'm starting to get the hang of most of the songs.  i'll try to get some lyrics for next time.

last night i went to a mwsmith concert.  mostly to make Stephanie jealous >).  the salters were going, so i thought yeah, that sounds fun.  we had pretty good directions to the show ("it's in new kingston somewhere") so we set off.  the girls had given us slightly better yet still slightly cryptic directions ("turn right at the burger king" as if there were only one bk in kingston).  we ended up following the line of traffic.  went around the loop once with no avail on parking, so we went around the block agian, only to find that our happy go lucky smooth moving trail of traffic was not so happily moving anymore.  we eventually made it through, me dropping the guys off in front and continuing in heroic search of parking.  i eventually drove back to their place and walked.  at 12 minutes walk, we probably would have gotten home later in fighting traffic than walking.  the girls passed me while i was walking down trafalger, and i beat them in by a good fifteen minutes (they still had to get parking).

lying on the roof of an outbuilding at the back of the venue (it was out doors).  feeling the bass vibrating the zinc beneath us.  gazing between the palm fronds at the three dozen stars able to penetrate the smog.  watching the stage floodlights flick across the sky.  watching the waning crescent of the moon descend to the horizon.  it was cradled in teh bottom 180s of it's disc, looking like it was on fire during atmospheric reintry just to the right of the stage and the left of the red hills (area).  the farther it descended the redder it got.

the crowd really responded to the p&w songs, so that set the tone for the night.  smitty didn't really warm up to the encore (which really wasn't an "encore" encore... they didn't clap for him to come out, they just kept singign the last song and didn't leave).  he really started to get going then, i wish the first dozen songs could have been like the last three.  it just took him a bit to get used the culture difference.  in all a good experience.
