time for some maps.for starters, the university of texas' Perry-Castañeda library has an excellent map collection.
from that collection we have here a 1983 population density map.
secondly, a 1983 land usage map. our time was spent primarily in the east--the brown and magenta areas.
lastly, an annotated political map. blue is ground transportation, magenta is air transportation.
