glimpses...in no particular chronological order...
...drinking so called "citrus punch", consuming a twix bar, and listening/watch spanish music videos. i think i'd enjoy it more if i had consumed half a package of snack cookies just a bit ago. meanwhile devoting the rest of my attentions to my favorite solitare game (tripeaks). I've racked up over $8000! sounds impressive, doesn't it? not so impressive when you consider that the eight grand was over the course of 750 plus games averaging about $11 per game. need to put that time to better use eh? but it's a fun game :).

evening dispersal flight. lazily sweeping a two mile grid over mandeville, watching a subdued sunset reflect off a low-lying cloudbank there. gorgeous pinks and oranges. on a scale of 1 to 5, this was an easy 5. a quiet evening's flying, when i hear this come over unicom.
plane 1: "six tango hotel, davis cove 1500 sangster negril"
pause
plane 2: "six delta kilo, three south of negril at a thousand"
pause

i just shook my head. it was a good flight.

This from an anonymous author, in the poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight":
"Watz tried for his tricherie"
"as I haf herde telle", it was a pretty good tale. but thoroughly incomprehensible. I obviously didn't pay enough attention to ernie martin's survey of the english language in britlit...

cleaning my desktop, random quotes:

There seems to be a meta-rule behind these nonstandard hackerisms to the effect that precision of expression is more important than conformance to traditional rules; where the latter create ambiguity or lose information they can be discarded without a second thought. --Jargon File

i must have fell into a great abyss, becuase it's now three or four days later and i'm no further with this blog. another conversation i heard on the radio two days ago while i was taxiing for the active. tower was a thirties something female and airj 308 was a typical jamaican male.
308: tower jamaica 308 ready for push and taxi.
atc: air jamaica 308 roger, taxi alpha one two due traffic standby clearance.
308: taxi alpha one two.
pause
308: tower, how far is that traffic for 308? i mean, how long would the delay be for [runway] three zero?
atc: {why are you wasting my time?} about twenty five miles, so uh six minutes.
308: roger, we'll taxi one two.
pause
308: {mockingly petulent / flirting} i was just askin'
atc: {patronizing / not getting it} okay {one of those "like duh" okays}

i just made a strategic manouver in my battle with the mosquitos (basically I retreated to the 'relative' safety of the air conditioned bedroom in the midst a bloody rout). but roland's sleeping restlessly amidst the clattering of my typing and periodic sinister cracking of my knuckles. so i might have to knock it off after a bit for the sake of general good will.
yes, it's 0257 in the morning and it's the first time i've been up this late in a good while. perhaps the first time since i moved the tv up to paul and sib's apartment. it might have something to do with the quantity of mountain dew i consumed earlier this evening...i needed something to calm my unsteady nerves. there was a lot of bs floating around at that particular party. i never was too good at enjoying the show of two beauracrats who not-so-secretly hate each other's guts exchange glowing accolades of praise and goodwill for the public's benefit. actually, that's laying it on a little thick on my part...but there was a lot bs flying around (and it apparently rubbed off). so i ate my cake and drank my mountain dew and sat off to the side trying to talk to the mexican engineers. spanish is much more difficult when attempted to a background of very loud reggae music (in english).
then i came home and stayed up til one thirty reading a book that ended with the good guys winning a very costly battle with large ugly winged things from the dark depths of evil. what a brilliant thing for me to read at one thirty in the morning with the lights off.

three short stories i highly recommend:
these are short folks.. if you can take time to read what I write, then by all means you can take the time for these:
Shooting an Elephant
Beware the Dog
The Open Boat
okay, that one's maybe not quite as short
Because I Could Not Stop for Death

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone
