<< Sarcasm Scale >>

An explanation...

[0] = drop dead serious

[1] = no sarcasm, take it at face value

[2] = light banter

[3] = sarcastic, but still in a good mood

[4] = very sarcastic, almost enough to make you take a step back and say, "whoa"

[5] = very sarcastic, perhaps a skosh overboard [3] (and typically it means I'm upset)

hmm , appears that i never got so far as posting this one, though from the looks of it i started it in early august.  because i'm a packrat, i hate to just throw it away...

random blog session (and other misc. clips)

what have i been up to lately?  well, really lately it's been sleep.  had a five hour work day and had to take a two hour nap to recover.  now i'm enjoying one of roland's iced coffee's to recover from my nap.  no telling what i'm going to have to do to recover from that (since he dumped well over 20 ounces in my cup).

we're slowly getting things settled since he moved in.  we haven't been home much to unpack, and don't seem much inclined to do so when we actually are home.  i did clean the kitchen out a little bit last week.  he had brought a cardboard box down with misc dry goods in it.  i moved it off the table and discovered that despite it's innocent appearance of containing only dry foods, something inside was NOT following the path of righteousness.  fighting an urge to throw myself off the balcony, i removed its contents and discovered a bag of what probably used to be potatoes.  whatever they were or once were, the entire lot had definately succumbed to the dark side.  but remarkably enough the kitchen smells better these days.

monday i went with paul and sib to mandeville and christiana.  on the way we stopped at a place called "Colbeck Castle" nw of old harbour.  i'll include pics with the monthly round, but it's a old castle out in the middle of nowhere important with grass/saplings growing waist/shoulder high.  we wandered in (this involved "wandering" past, "wandering" into the wrong driveway, before finally getting it right.  more on this later).  we wandered in through the dew-soaked grass (read, soaked shoes and pants).  took a bunch of pictures, fought off crazed biting ants and prolific quantities of spider webs, then wandered back out.

actually, first we wallowed around in the muddy "road" trying to get the muffler tied back up.  (the aft-most bracket gave up the ghost some weeks ago.  we've tried a succession of twine, clothes-hangers, and saftey wire with mixed degrees of success. the clothes-hanger was actually the best deal but while "wandering" into the wrong driveway I'd managed to knock it a good one).  now we've got it wrapped up pretty good with multiple rounds of aviation safety wire, that should hold for a while.  it's probably as good or better as the local "muffler repair shop" would have done.

back on the beaten path (from fishtailing down a muddy track to a modern limited access highway in twenty minutes), we continued to mandeville.  its weird driving though clarendon on the toll road, seeing all the european style road signs against a backdrop of tin shacks.  (a french contractor built the road...they've got a 30 year time period to to maintain it and collect tolls, then they give it back to the jamaican gov't.  in the meanwhile, it's by far the nicest road in jamaica--all twenty-five miles of it).  we stopped at a great house to check their lunch menu prices.  we weren't impressed, so we parked in their parking lot, walked down the driveway out of sight of the house then sat on the retaining wall along the drive and ate our pbj's.  nice view of downtown, and the air was nice and clean compared to what i'm used to in kingston.

right now i'm simply trying to figure out what i'm doing up at one o'clock in the morning.  i guess the technical answer would be "browsing calvin and hobbes cartoons".  oh.  well, that seems simple enough.  i have to stop occasionally (like now) to keep myself from laughing out loud...i'd hate to wake roland up with manaical (okay, wheezingly borderline hysterical) laughter in the dark... it's probably not safe for me to do so.  earlier i was reading a self-proclaimed "thriller" that the apartment's former occupant left behind.  rather second-rate material, but it did have a few droll lines thrown into the midst of a couple of tense firefights.  i found that reading something funny while holding my breath causes me to make some rather interesting (and probably unbecoming) noises.

========

meanwhile i'm afraid writing block has set in with a rather vicsious firmness.  i'm confessing this to you in vague hope that writing about it will kill the evil spell.  not quite sure if it's working.  maybe some brain food would help.  i'm thinking vanilla ice cream and brownies.  but somehow i'm still at a loss for words.

========

you don't have to wash my dishes.  please stop.  {later} stop washing my dishes!

(thought that would sound odd out of context)
