since i wasn't able to get my camera out in time to take pictures this morning, i'll take two word pictures. (they'll be less than 1000 words a piece though). i saw these two as i was driving through rockfort this morning.the first was a toyota corolla station wagon pulling out onto the road. it was in typical condition (dented fenders, mismatched or missing hubcaps, doorpanel a different color paint than the rest of the car, patches of body filler sanded smooth but still waiting for primer and paint, a missing rear window covered by plastic and tape, you get the picture). it had something unusual about it though. no, it wasn't exactly the 4 x 8 sheet of 3/8" plywood lying on the roof. it was more the fact that there were absolutely no straps holding aforementioned sheet of plywood down. don't worry though, both the driver and the front seat passenger each had a hand gripping the wood through their respective windows. i'm was pretty sure they'd make it all right.
the second was a public bus that i came up behind at a bus stop. while waiting for it to load its passengers and continue on, i took the time to read the advertisement adorning the back of the bus. it depicted some healthy looking people engaged in various activities, and displayed a message something to the effect of "regular exercise and good nutrition equals a healthy life". just as i was getting to the bottom, the bus accelerated away from the bus stop and a cloud of diesel exhaust from the bus obscured a large chunk of my forward vision--it made the words "sponsored by the National Health Fund" pretty hard to read.

Ahhh...you've just been away from Jamaica too long. You got to soft back state-side, where you think little things like anchoring plywood to you car is a neccessity. 06 December, 2006 13:29 – Jenn Heatwole
