if you ever come to visit me make sure you keep your shoes clean so you can walk around the house in them. even walking in socks the tile floor in the kitchen and bathrooms is freezing. (with just me in the house i'm pretty stingy on the electric heat). that had me a little concerned, how cold the floor gets knowing that none of my pipes in the crawlspace have insulation on them. so i just finished setting up a digital thermometer down there to see what it gets to tonight. of course, moving from the light breeze and freezing drizzle we have outside right now into the closed crawl space made it seem downright cozy...or as cozy as anything with a dirt floor and spiderwebs hanging from the floor joists can get. it's supposed to reach the low twenties tonight—hopefully i'll see temps inside the crawlspace of well over 40 so i don't have to heat down there at all. i've never heard of having to heat a crawlspace, i just have cold feet.which is why when i opened my door this morning i paused a moment then shut it again and took my shoes off. to my surprise there was a heavy dusting of snow outside, so i opted to switch from the shoes i'd been wearing (replete with holes) to a somewhat more watertight pair. it was a little exciting to see the season's first snow (though i ran into some in yosemite a couple months back). i took a moment to snap a couple pictures and crunched around a bit before heading into work. of course when i pulled out onto the road i did so behind a van with florida plates. suffice to say i had plenty of time to look at the scenery on the way into work as mr. florida definitely wasn't a speed demon on snow. we passed a tacoma on its side in the ditch at one point, poor guy probably didn't somebody to keep him in check like i did. later on when i got to the road to the airport it wasn't cleared yet, i played around a little there without managing to hit any mailboxes. it wound up snowing most of the day although it quit sticking after nine o'clock.
remember freerice? the fad hasn't faded, but it's looking like it's plateaued for now. they changed their reward from 10 grains to 20 grains, so i graphed them based on number of correct answers per day (left). Diana and i were also trying to figure out the cyclic nature, so i graphed them by weekday (right) to see what would come up. series 1 is average for each weekday including the rampup period in the first few weeks. series 2 is the average for just the last three or four weeks since the number of correct answers exceeded 15 million for the first time. one can see that there are certainly a large percentage of players who play at work:
