thursday evening ten pm found me painting my living room. beats me why, i'm probably losing my sanity. it went well though, all the prep work had been done (tapeing and trimming out) so it was just rolling the walls and ceiling. i just popped a darude/alice dejay mix in the stereo and set to.it dawned on me that night while lying in bed thinking of something else that i'd made extra work for myself three days earlier. monday morning last i spent five minutes driving around town to find a postal drop box when I could have left the envelope in my own mailbox with the flag up. Some things like owning a mailbox take a little getting used to. (I'd retrieved my mail from my own mailbox three times since that day without remembering that it worked for sending mail too—must have taken the paint fumes to jog that one loose.) Getting my mail in Jamaica required an actual visit to the postoffice and a brief chat with the postmistress...something i actually enjoyed as opposed to an impersonal box on a pole at the end of my driveway.
today i made a quick trip to mississippi and back to pick up an airplane. while in mississippi back in october, i spent a week there filling in for the local manager while he was on vacation. i got to spend the week in his apartment (big step up from a motel room) and was given free usage of his dvd collection. in the course of the week i watched quite a few movies, fotr and ttt amongst them. he'd loaned rotk out so i didn't get a chance to watch it again, but watching the first two inspired me to break into the four-book set mom has at home. the hobbit and fotr each took a week or two apiece since i waited mostly to read them until i was on airline flights. i was about 2/3 of the way through the two towers when i started out today's trip, and i worked on it while waiting for my first flight. but i'd borrowed rotk from brent last week, so i started that as soon as we passed "electronic devices now permitted" line on our way to charlotte. that's when it started to get a little weird as i watched events that i'd just read (ttt and rotk movie timelines are changed up a bit from the books to streamline them). even worse when i landed in charlotte and returned to ttt whilst waiting for the leg to new orleans. more rotk on that flight, then back to ttt for the flight back to virginia (can't run my laptop in an unpressurized plane above 8000ft or so). i'm used to being in the middle of three or four books at a time, but have never tried mixing books and their movies before. it was an interesting experience in maintaining mental control of multiple similar storylines.
now i'm off to finish the movie.

Hi. I enjoyed the mailbox story. What color did you pick for the living room? 08 February, 2008 13:15 –
