Ingredients:two weeks ago we started an 8 day stretch in florida and covered a little over 1350 square miles. that's a mere 2.5% of florida's land mass, but i prefer to compare it to a smaller fish...say rhode island (which weighs in at 1045 square miles). we spray just over half a square mile every minute, so that was over 40 hours of flight time just spraying for two or three airplanes, not including ferry and turns. i went home for a 25 hour layover and have now spent 4 days in louisiana and have sprayed a grand total of zero acres. i'm still a little curious what exactly i'm doing here besides finally getting around to sorting through my massively unorganized picture collection.
1 cold front
1bag sour patch kids
1 sonic java chiller
1 computer containing 18 months of unsorted pictures
20GB mp3 collection
1pair noise cancelling headphones
Directions:
Spread cold front evenly over the state of Louisiana to scare away the mosquitoes, ensuring you a day off. Consume liberal quantities of sugar containing candy and caffeine containing drink. Don headphones and mix mp3's into an adequate player, simmer for remainder of day. Set mood to "Organize" and have at it for a 5 hour stretch.
the cold front was our initial problem, although i would hesitate to call it a "problem". i just spent an hour sitting at an outdoor table at sonic starting an hour after sunset and saw nary a mosquito for the entire duration. 'miraculous' is one way to describe that scenario, 'bliss' would be another. sauntering around the historic downtown of new iberia (home of tobasco sauce) at two o'clock in the afternoon without breaking into a heat/humidity induced sweat is something i would have never expected to encounter.
so the cold pushed us back a week and i ordered us all tickets to go home. two hours later we were lined up for another job tomorrow right back here in louisiana, so i cancelled the tickets. that job has since fell through and i've repurchased tickets for the same flights 24 hours later.
{shrugs} hey, at least i've had time to sort pictures. did i mention that there was a hurricane here a few weeks back (gustav) and all the hotels are booked solid? they're putting us up in an upscale b&b complete with spiral staircase and wrap-around balcony. it's been tough, but somehow we're surviving....
